High-Cholesterol - The Hidden Cause and 7 Must-Know Dietary Tips!

If you're like me, you probably see at least one daily television commercial for Lipitor, the most popular cholesterol-lowering medication. Believe it or not, 16 million Americans are now taking Lipitor, costing each person $900-$1200 per year.

But despite the increased use of statins, the CDC reports that total U.S. cholesterol levels have shown little change in the past decade. So what's going on?

The truth is, statins do not address the real cause of high cholesterol. Even worse, they often lead to:

· Disruption of hormones

· Blood sugar problems

· Edema

· Mineral deficiencies

· Chronic inflammation

· Slow healing

· Allergies

· Asthma

· Reduced libido

· Infertility and other reproductive problems

· Muscle fatigue and severe muscle destruction

Why is "muscle fatigue and destruction" emphasized? The most common and dangerous side effect of statins is weakening of the heart muscle, via statins' reduction of the body's "CoQ-10". CoQ-10 is an important energy-producing agent that helps fuel every muscle in the body. And guess what... the heart is a muscle too!

Why is it then that medical doctors sometimes place cardiovascular patients on statins? Yes, it's quite illogical!

What's the HIDDEN cause of high cholesterol?

For many people, the real cause of high cholesterol is an improperly working digestive system. Yes... just like I.B.S., constipation, diarrhea, gas, heartburn and bloating, high cholesterol can be the direct result of a digestive system problem.

What's the link? Consider the saying, "You are what you eat." Surprisingly, that statement is false! You are not what you eat, you are what you digest. You can eat all of the apples in the world, but if your body cannot absorb the apples' nutrients, you will not reap any benefits.

Cholesterol problems can result when your digestive organs cannot properly digest the fats or proteins you consume. When your body cannot digest fats or proteins, your liver does not receive the nutrition it needs to process cholesterol correctly. This can cause your cholesterol levels to rise.

Can cholesterol medications fix the situation? NO, statins do not address these digestive system problems.C holesterol medications only place a "band-aid" on the problem... even if they appear to be working.

What can you do? To start, here are 7 keys to improve your digestion AND help you lower your cholesterol levels:

1. Eat onions and leeks, both of which have immense healing properties.

2. Eat greens, not grains! Greens will give you plenty of fiber to keep food moving smoothly through your digestive tract. Although grains have fiber too, all grains are converted to sugar. Refined sugars, especially sucrose, are known to stimulate clumping of the blood platelets.

3. Take cod liver oil, an excellent dietary source of anti-inflammatory vitamin A, vitamin D and EPA.

4. Take an Omega-3 fatty acid.

5. Take evening primrose, borage or black currant oils. These are sources of GLA, an Omega-6 fatty acid. Your body uses GLA to make anti-inflammatory agents.

6. Consume coconut oil and coconut products. Coconut oil protects against bacteria and viruses that can lead to inflammation in the arterial walls.

7. Consume garlic liberally!

Surprised to see coconut on the list? Contrary to popular belief, high fat vegetarian and plant-based foods like coconut, nuts and avocados are virtually cholesterol-free. Cholesterol only comes from animal sources such as egg yolks, cheese, butter and meat.

When all is said and done...

Do not fear cholesterol, because we need it in our diets. Cholesterol composes sex hormones, cushions the 10 trillion cells in our bodies, protects us from cancer, plays a key role in memory, and much, much more.

You do not get high cholesterol because you lack Lipitor in your body, so Lipitor will not solve the problem! The only way to fully restore any health issue is to fix the direct situation that caused the problem in the first place. In the case of high cholesterol, a digestive system problem may very well be the real cause.
